Superintendent

With over two decades of experience in education, Dr. Benjamin Clinton has a proven track record of driving student achievement and organizational excellence. Before joining Mercedes ISD, Dr. Clinton served as Deputy Superintendent of Raymondville ISD, where he led the district to earn A ratings for all high school, middle school and elementary campuses in 2024. He successfully managed the district's budget, ensuring financial stability while providing annual raises for teachers and staff and improving school facilities. His leadership also secured millions in competitive grants, expanded early childhood to postsecondary education, and enhanced employee health benefits.

Prior to becoming Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Clinton held roles as a teacher and a coach, curriculum and instruction facilitator, high school principal, and special programs director, where he implemented key academic and career initiatives that improved student outcomes.

Dr. Clinton holds a B.A. in Economics from Rice University and a Doctor of Education from Lamar University. He is a TASBO Registered Texas School Business Administrator and Board Certified in Special Education by the American Academy of Special Education Professionals.

A Rice Owls football player while in college, Ben was also a high school UIL Academic Science District Champion and trombone section leader in his high school band. He remains a strong supporter of extracurricular activities, recognizing their role in student development and success. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Esperanza, a pharmacist, and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Victoria.
