Dear Mercedes ISD families,
At approximately 5:07 p.m. Mercedes administration was alerted that a shooting occurred near the Mercedes Early College Academy. Our campus administration took the precaution to ensure the safety of our students and staff, so we immediately implemented our "lockdown" procedures. No MECA students or staff were directly involved in the situation.
Local law enforcement is on the scene and once police notified the campus administration that the situation was under control the lockdown was lifted at 6:10 p.m.
Students and staff are secure, and we are maintaining communication with authorities. Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our paramount concern. Further updates will be provided once more information becomes available.
