Mercedes ISD to Delay Start of School due to Expected Cold Weather
The Mercedes Independent School District announces the delay of the start of school for Tuesday and Wednesday, January 16 & 17, 2024, due to inclement weather.

- Mercedes ISD employees will report at their regular schedule time on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Mercedes ACE programs/activities have been cancelled for Tuesday, January 16 and Wednesday, January 17.
- Mercedes High School Varsity soccer and basketball games have been moved to Wednesday, January 17. There will be no early morning indoor practices and all outdoor practices from Monday to Wednesday are cancelled.
- Students will be allowed for warm clothing, such as warm ups, hooded pullovers, scarves and other wintery attire.
- Students will be dismissed at regular scheduled school hours.
We encourage our Mercedes ISD families to contact Family and Community Engagement (Tiger's Den Food Pantry) and their campus parental involvement liaisons if they are seeking assistance during this winter weather.
The District continues to actively monitor the weather forecasted. Any decisions regarding further necessary changes to the regular school schedule will be based on weather conditions, and we will inform families via mass notification systems and across our social media outlets.
