MERCEDES, TEXAS – Mercedes Independent School District is proud to announce the outstanding academic achievements of the Class of 2024 graduates. Approximately 350 seniors from Mercedes High School, Mercedes Academic Academy, and Mercedes Early College Academy graduated during the commencement exercises on June 7, 2024 at Tiger Stadium. Their numerous accolades reflect the district's commitment to academic excellence and career readiness.
The students’ milestones included:
Associate Degrees: 40 graduates earned associate degrees, showcasing their dedication to higher education and their readiness for advanced academic pursuits.
Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs): 224 IBCs were awarded, demonstrating students’ proficiency in various career fields and enhancing their employability.
Scholarships: Mercedes ISD graduates received approximately $2 million in scholarships and tuition assistance, a testament to their hard work, determination and the support of Mercedes ISD educators and community partners.
The district’s dual credit partnerships with South Texas College, Texas State Technical College, and McMurry University enabled the Class of 2024 to earn a total of 4,010 college hours while in high school, and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program also opened pathways to certifications in fields like Animal Science, Construction Management, Digital Communications, Business Management, Culinary Arts, Nursing Science, Cosmetology, Law Enforcement, Welding, and more.
Mercedes ISD has placed a strong emphasis on providing College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) options and opportunities to middle school and high school students. By offering a comprehensive range of programs and support, the district equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen paths.
Mrs. Jeanne Venecia, Acting Superintendent of Schools, expressed her immense pride in the accomplishments of the graduating class.
“Providing our students with diverse CCMR options is crucial in preparing them for the future,” Venecia said. “We have seen firsthand the positive impact these opportunities have on our students’ lives, with the focus on industry-recognized certifications and dual credit courses leading to increased graduation rates and post-graduation prospects. These initiatives not only prepare students for immediate entry into the workforce, but also set a strong foundation for further education and personal growth. At Mercedes ISD, we will continue to strive to expand our offerings to meet the evolving needs of our community.”
