In a special meeting held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, the Board of Trustees for the Mercedes Independent School District named Dr. Benjamin Clinton the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Clinton is currently the Deputy Superintendent for Raymondville ISD. During his career in education, Dr. Clinton has also served as Special Programs Director, Curriculum and Instruction Facilitator, principal, educator, and coach.
“I am deeply honored to be named lone finalist for the Superintendent of Schools position with Mercedes ISD. I eagerly look forward to becoming a part of the Mercedes community and working together with the Board of Trustees, parents, and community members to help every student reach their fullest potential,” stated Dr. Clinton.
Dr. Clinton holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University - Beaumont, a Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University – Beaumont, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Rice University.
Board President Marcos J. Garcia IV declares, “It is my distinct honor and privilege to announce Dr. Benjamin Clinton has been named the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Clinton was selected after an extensive search that attracted many highly qualified applicants from across the region and the state. Mercedes ISD is a place where growth and student success is fostered, and his experience and visionary leadership make him the perfect fit for the students and staff at Mercedes ISD. We are eager for him to bring a new era of leadership, progress and excellence to our district, which will undoubtedly make Mercedes ISD one of the best districts in the state. According to state law, the Board must wait 21 days before officially voting to offer Dr. Clinton a contract as superintendent.
