Innovative Schools survey

MERCEDES, Texas – Mercedes Independent School District is taking the next step in shaping the future of its schools by integrating parent, student, staff, and community feedback into its long-term planning. A district-wide survey conducted in March 2025 revealed a strong consensus for expanded STEM, Fine Arts, leadership development through athletics, and innovative learning experiences like outdoor education.

Survey responses emphasized a desire for hands-on, project-based learning, real-world applications, and improved school facilities to support these initiatives. Parents and community members also highlighted the importance of strengthening communication, expanding extracurricular opportunities, and ensuring a safe, engaging, and well-rounded educational environment.

To discuss these findings and collaborate on the next steps, Mercedes ISD will host three town hall meetings, where community members can review the survey results and help shape the district’s vision:

·         Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. – Ruben Hinojosa Elementary School, 500 S. Rio Rico Road

·         Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. – Sgt. William G. Harrell Middle School, 2825 North FM 491

Parents, students, and community members are encouraged to attend any session that best fits their schedule.

“Our families and community members have spoken, and their vision is clear—more hands-on STEM learning, enhanced Fine Arts, leadership opportunities through athletics, and dynamic outdoor education,” said Dr. Benjamin Clinton, Superintendent of Schools. “These town halls will allow us to come together, turn vision into reality, and create a shared path forward for Mercedes ISD.”

Mercedes ISD is committed to building innovative schools that reflect the needs and aspirations of its community. The district looks forward to engaging with families and stakeholders to transform these priorities into action.
