Travis Elementary students had the opportunity to visit with area businesses, law enforcement agencies and community professionals representing many different roles at the school's Career Fair. The theme was “Familia is Everything,” and attendees were encouraged and empowered with information to prepare their student(s) transition to college, career or military. The School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) held its first meeting of the school year at the MISD Auditorium this morning. Officers were elected at the start of the meeting, including Chairman Christina Barrientes, Vice-Chairman Yessenia Colunga, and Secretary Jose Vasquez. A presentation about the dangers of Fentanyl abuse was given by PRC11 (Prevention Resource Center 11), a program of Behavioral Health Solutions of South Texas.
Thank you to the parents and staff who attended, and to Mercedes FD Chief Javier Campos for also sharing his knowledge and expertise. Jaylynn Luna, a junior at Mercedes Early College Academy and Varsity Tiger Cheerleader, showcased her talents with the SOSA (Spirit of San Antonio) Pom Squad during the University of Texas at San Antonio v. Rice University football game on Saturday, November 11 at the Alamodome.
